February 8~ 1929 WILMETTE LIFE "Synthetic Sin" at Sue Carol, Arthur Lake Star in Varsity Movie Bill-O-Fare Nor shore Saturda:;; "The Air Circus," aviation picture · Colleen Moore Film·--------..-! starring Sue Carol, Arthur Lake, Louise "Synthetic Sin," starrihg Colleen Moore, comes to the Norshore this Saturday, February 9, for one week. Colleen has the role of a schoolgirl ,dth whom a playwright ha s fallen in love. The girl, who believes she is a Bernhardt but who is actually without experience on the stage, persuades her author lover to give her the leading ro~e . in his heavy problem play. She fails. A kindh: actress tells Colleen, who is Bett\· Fairfax in the picture, tha~ she can't play a wicked role because she doesn 't know anything about sin, whereupon Miss Betty Jilacks up her K egro mammy and goes away to learn all about sin. The hotel to which she is directed by the kindly actress has sin to give away. Its tenants are gunmen and painted ladies. Betty's playwright sweetheart follows her, and accepts the offer of the tough manager of the hotel to stage a fake battle between his clients that nill dis<:ourage Betty of her life of sin. Betty overhears the frameup, so she isn't scared when the boys start using her room for a target range. She becomes alarmed, however, when considerable blood is shed, for the fight \vas not the fake she thought. This rather strong medicine cures the girl and makes her quite willing to become the playwright's wife without acting in his plays. Saturday, February !' ',?h~ ~ir Circus" .... . ........... Teatro Dresser, and David Rollins, will be shown at the Varsity theater in Evanston this Saturday, February 9. The ·3tory of this picture has an unusual and lJp-to-date subject, the conquering of a young man's fear of the air. "The Air Circus" is young in spirit and gay in tone. The leading characters, with the exception of Louise Dresser, are young3ters, but their daily routine is filled with the possibilities of grim disaster. There are many scenes photographed from the air, and these form a thrilling part of the picture. "The love drama of the happiest peopie in the world-the first true picture of the South Seas." These and many other paeans of praise have been lavished on "White Shadows of the South Seas," to be shown at the Varsity next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, February 11, 12, and 13. in uNo M11n#1 lAnd·# Sheritlm Road &tween Wilmette and Kenilworth Ph.
