Mrs. Daity, program chairman, with Mrs. Russel Johnson, Americanism chairman, is plan·ling special program numbers that wil1 contribute to the patriotic spirit of the month. Mr5. Arthur Johnson represented the unit at the meeting of Central council last Friday. Arrangements have long since been completed for the costume baJl to be given tonight at the Masonic temple by the unit; it will doubtless be one of the most brilliant affairs ever given by the organization. Mrs. Margaret Hall, who heads the committee sponsoring the affair, announ.ce3 that there wilt be four cash prizes for lovely and whimsical costuming- two for men, and twv for women. The large ticket sale and interest evidenced in the party, indicates that competition for prizes will be keen. Members will be greatly interested in the announcement that the date for the bi-monthly party at Great Lakes has been advanced from Februarv 25, to Friday evening, February ·15. this change was made in order that the delightful drama · "Lombardi, Ltd.," which will be presented at the Women's club on the evenings of February 12 and 13, might serve as th~ entertainment for the ex-service men at the party. Co-operation of th~ cast in offering this treat to the men was secured through the interest of Dr. Vv. W. Hawkin5, a member of the cast and head of the Legion committee on program, and Mrs. John B. Boddie, who is general chairman for the dramatic production and an auxiliary member who is interested in progress of the unit. Delegates appointed to r_epresent Wilmette at the district meetmg next Monday noon at Evanston are Mrs. Arthur Johnson, Mr3. S. Van Inwagen, Mrs. George Bassler, Mrs. T. L. Hall and Mrs. C. B. Mrs: Artl~'.tr Johnsqn i·3 in charge of reservations. 'Cnder the novel epithet of "Kentucky Derby" the annual members~ip contest begins, which includes the Legion and Auxiliary of every department in the union. Giving this race the name of the historic. turf event seems appropriate, '5mce the contest will end at 2 P. M. on May 18- the time of the classic race; a:nd since the next national convention is slated for Louisville in the early fall. The "race" opened January 2, at which time Minnesota was . leading with 40% of her Legion and 70% of her Auxiliary reinstated-an average of 54%. Michigan was reported .second. There have been fiftv-four Kentucky Derbies, and since there are approximately fifty-four· departments, e.ach department has been given the name of a derby winner. Illinois drew "Regret"; slightly change&, this gives '\Ve get" as a working slogan. Posts and unit·3 in the state are to furnish the "feed"-1929 membership blanks-and careful grooming that "Regret" may flash through to a glorious victory, and Illinois be in at the finish.
