March 8, 1929 WILMETTE LIFE 5 Thank Wilmette Officials for Pushing McCormick Rd. The Crawford Avenue Improvement association, at its annual meeting, February 6, voted a unanimous ex· pression of thanks to the Wilmette Village board for its cooperation in planning and providing highway improvement through Wilmette in accordance with the general development project for Crawford avenue (McCormick boulevard) through Evanston and Chicago. The improvement association also thanked Lloyd C. Ayres, secretary of the vVilmette Plan commission, for furnishing information and comprehensive maps. George W. Harrison Heads Carpenters Union Local George W. Harrison of Evanston has been elected business agent of Local 1307 of the Carpenters and Joiners union, which includes the towns in New Trier. Mr. Harrison succeeds Adam Tait, business agent of this local for many years, who passed away in January. R. E. Hoffman was elected financial secretary of the local, a position held by Mr. Harrison for several years Both men were chosen for a short term, the election for the full term to be held latet= this spring. Board Votes Opening of Central Avenue to Ridge Central avenue in Wilmette will be opened and extended from its present terminus at the west line of Schnettler's addition to Wilmette to the east line of Ridge avenue. This improvement is provided for in an ordinance passed by the Village board at its regular meeting Tuesday night. · Provide for Road Paving in Western Section The Village board at its regular meeting Tuesday adopted an ordinance providing for the improvement of Iroquois road from Illinoi'.5 road to Twenty-third street, and other streets in the village. Improvements contemplated include paving and the construction of sidev,·alks. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Arnold of 1538 Elmwood avenue announce the marriage of their daughter, Mildred Louise. to Edwin Sumner, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Sumner of 1416 Elmwood avenue, on February 22. Mr. and Mrs. Sumner are staying at the Arnold home until they find an apartment on the north side. The bride was graduated from New Trier High school in 1927. and the bridegroom is a graduate of the Evanston High school. --oMr. and Mrs. E. C. Willi'3on are expected to return to their home at 1011 Greenleaf avenue this week after their annual winter trip which took them to California, ~ exas, and Old Mexico for six weeks. -oM rs. Howard M. Duncan and her little daughter, Joan, of 1006 Forest avenue, left Sunday evening for a visit of several months with the former's aunt in Los Angeles. --oMr. and Mrs. John D. Small and their son, Stoddard, of 411. Maple avenue, spent last week-end in Moline, Ill. at the home of Mrs. Merle C. Nutt, Mr. and Mrs. Small's daughter. -o-James T. Barry, night superintendent of Lloyd Hollister, Inc., and Mts. Barry and their children, recently have moved from Albany Park to Evanston, where they are living at 1148 Ashland avenue. -oMrs. Merle B. Snyder returned Monday to her home at 215 Woodbine avenue, from Lansing, Mich, where she was called by the illness of her mother.
