WILMETTE LIFE March 22. 1929 Wianetbna Escape When Car Esplodea on Mountain Mr. ~nd Mrs. Forest R. Lowrey and Mr. and Mrs. Howard R. Wal'ton escaped without injury when their car ,exploded last Sunday, as they were driving through the Cumberland Mountains, on their way south. The accident occurred when they were at the highest point in the mountains, about 2,800 ·feet elevation, near Mount Eagle, Tenn. The car backfired, and the Winnetka people were able to re'3cue their luggage before it exploded. After the car was entirely burned, they took a bus to Chattanooga, and continued on their Musical Society Gives way to Miami. Our Baseball Nine Begins Rehearsals The Wilmette Athletic club baseball team, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, will take the field soon to begin active practice for the coming season. Last year the boys won nineteen games an~ lost six. A few more new players will be seen in action this year. One valuable acquisition is "Mony" Rudolph of Glencoe, who will probably be placed as shortstop to round out a fast infield. Initial practice will be held as soon as the playing field dries sufficiently. The date will be announced and \Vilmette youths are urged to come out and try for the nine. At a meeting last week Emil .A. Nord was re-elected president, and Al Schaefer chosrn secretary and placed in charge of advertising and publicity.
