"Not a great many drop out," he said, "but with such a large number, some are· bound to quit." · All Sorts of People Members of the chorus have been drawn from Evanston and the north shore with some coming from Chicago and the west suburbs. "We are very cosmopolitan," the dean said. "We have bankers, lawyers, clerks, society people-in fact, all sorts of people. They are all drawn by their love of music." To sing in the chorus at all, the appli- · cant must have a fair voice and some previous experience in choir work. The best voices are always given first choice. "We lose a great many every year," Dean Lutkin explained, "but there are always a great many disappointed because they cannot get in. "The bass section is unusually fine this year," he said. "We have not had so much trouble getting men this sea..."son as we have had in other choruses. We might have more tenors, but we have a good section now. We have even had to turn down some basses. Many Attend Both Rehearsals "The chorus is fascinated with Bach's B minor Mass," he stated. "We have never had such enthusiastic attention. Members are required to come to one rehearsal a week, but many come to both. We rehearse. Saturday and Monday evenings, from 8 to 9 :30." The chorus will also sing Saint Saens "Sampson and Delilah," and the coronation· scene by Mussorgsky from his "Boris Goudonow." It will also sing "All This Night My Heart Rejoices," an arrangement by Dean Lutkin written for the occasion. It will have its first presentation at the festival and will be giyen without accompaniment, with antiphonal phrases between the chorus and the A Cappella choir. Mr. and Mrs. E. Hunter Hicks won the amateur golf tournament at the Hot Springs ·Golf club while he was there. -aFrederick Breit has recentlv returned to Kenilworth from Florida where at Miami Beach he owns one of the most beautiful of homes.
