What traits of character in a man or woman make a happy home? Do strong domineering men who budget the ice-ltox get more co-operation in paying off the mortgage than their weaker brothers? Does a man about to lay down the first payment on a bungalow prefer a clinging vine to decorate it or an efficient business woman to run it? Or are beauty and brains both necessary? What kind of men and women are most likely to emerge successfully from the many sacrifices-big and littlethat often must be made in order to achieve the home in the first place; and will these same attributes sustain the home through the years? The Chicago "Own Your Home" Exposition, not content with exhibiting houses at its coming show, wants to kno.w what makes the best kind of people to put in them. The exposition offers two tash prizes of $50 each, one for men and one for women, for the best descriptions of home-making qualities for the opposite sex. Thus, men competing in this contest must submit an analysis of the ideal home woman, and vice versa. In other words, men will not be permitted to define the ideal man, as this would destroy the purpose of the competition, which is to get the "low-down" from the other side. Sexton, managing director of the exposition, in making the announcement. "It is altogether fitting that in urging home ownership upon the public, we take some means of also calling to their attention the kind of attributes that go to make the home successful. People might visit our exposition and buy the best materials and equipment and put up a fine home, but if the right spirit is not behind it the venture is likely to fail. "This is particularly true for people of small incomes, for where there is little money to spend the human factor becomes very important. Such people must work together and bring the right qualities to the undertaking." The winning definitions will be painted in letters of gold in a conspicuous place in the Exposition hall as models for visitors of both sexes.
