Born in Warsaw, Poland in May; 1895, Skalski started hb meteoric concert career when hardly 11 years of age. His teachers were the great Robert Teichmuller, Hans Sitt and Max Reger. He was encouraged by Arthur Nikisch to study conducting and he made his debut as an orchestra and opera conductor when 16 years old. At the age of 20 he appeared as '3oloist with the famous Philharmonic society in Warsaw and took critic s and public by storm. In 1922 Skaski \'\'a s chosen as conductor of the State Symphonv orchestra in Sydney, Australia. in which con nection he conducted eighty-two concerts within six month3, including sixteen concerts for Dame Nellie Melba. Following a piano recital in Sydney he was heralded by the press as "the most romantic pi~nist since Paderewiski." The Sunday Times of Sydney stated, following his concert: ~'Like Angeh we sometimes entertain a genius unaware s.
