Evanston Hospital Breaks Ground for New Nurses' Home Evanston hospital broke ground Thursday for a four-story home for nurses on -the Girard avenue side ·of the hospital immediately soqth of the present west building. · · The new s-tructure, designed by H. B. Wheelock, will be known as Patten hall and is intended as_a memorial to the late James A. Patten, whose generous support the hospital enjoyed for many years. Patten hall will cost, it is estimated, in the neighborhood of $700,000 with its furnishings and will be ready for occupancy, according to present expectations, about Jan. 1, 1930. Contemplating the necessity of adding to the dormitory eVe'ntually, the hospital will put in foundations capable of supporting an additional two stories. Schmidt brothers are the contractors. The building will be of red brick with white stone trim, an ornate stone porte cochere and two roof-garden towers with colonnades featuring the principal facade. The building will measure 183x168 and will conform, in general, to the modified colonial architectur~ of the other hospital buildings. A lobby, office, library, living ro~m with wood-burning fireplace, dining room, kitchen, cafeteria, private dining room for the faculty and large auditorium with stage and moving p'icture equipment will occupy the first floor. Living Quarters on Third and F ourtb On the second floor will be a laboratory and lecture rooms together with rooms for nurses. The third and fourth floors will be entirely devoted to nurses' living quarters, a total of 216 on the three upper floors, each with a lavatory and a large closet. The new nurses' home will accommodate all the student nurses now housed for blocks up and down Ridge avenue in houses leased by the hospital. President W. vV. Buchanan of the hospital's board of trustees sees the construction of the new building as an important step in the cooperation between Northwestern university and the hospital in training nurses. Vriving Through Skokie Ridge Chicago R. E. Board Adopts Property Owner By-Laws There is always something to please the eye in Skokie Ridge. Not only the winding roads and great trees, the view of miles of countryside and flowered hillsides in the Glencoe development, but the character of homes now built and building, the absence of unsightly wires and the typical high standard of the development will impress _ you. And for such a development, which combines location and improvement, and offers the finest homesite choice on the North Shore, the prices are surprisingly low. Another step toward the formation of a property owners division within the Chicago Real Estate Board has been taken ~n the adoption of by-laws for the organization of such a division. The purpose of the move is to unite owners of real estate so that thev may work with Realtors for relief from in-equitable distribution of the tax burden, and maintain a uniform svstem of valuation of real estate for tax purposes. In the opinion of Albert W. Swayne, president of the Chicago Real Estate Board and chairman of the recently organized Property Owners Division of the National Association of Real Estate Boards, or~anization of the !:l.roperty owners will be a significant influence in obtaining relief from discriminatory and ,dama~ing legislation concerning real estate. Representatives of 500 families, members of the Central Association of ·swayne Cooperative Buildings. of which Mr. Swayne is founder, have voted to give support to the new division of the Chicago board, and have recommended that the eleven roooerati;~ buildings included in the Central association hold membership in the division. .
