Latlra LaPlante Is Star of "Scandal" . on T eatro Screen Universal's absorbing drama, "Scandal," starring Laura LaPlante, has been booked by the Teatro del Lago for presentation this Saturday, June 29. Adapted for the screen from "The· Haunted Lady," a magazine story by Adela Rogers St. Johns, "Scandal" is said to be one of the most unusual dramas of society filmed in many. seasons. As a story it was widely commented upon, and as a picture it has attained a popular success. The love of a former suitor for ,a happily married woman, at the pinnacle of Santa Barbara's exclusive soc i a I circles, causes the plot situation. "Come Acros.s," talking and sound production, with Jean Hers holt, Charles Chase, Lina Basquette, and Mary Notan, will be the Teatro attraction this Sunday, June 30. "Come Across" is a drama of the underworld. It details the story of a girl who was first a dancer at Coney Island, then the wife of a crook, and later a fugitive from justice . Popular Players in This One Two of screendom's most popular younger players, Mary Brian and Richard Arlen, have the leading roles in the Paramount all-talking picture, "The Man I Love." And Mary Brian's voice is heard for the first time from the screen singing "Celia," the song written especiallv for her. "Spite Marriage," Buster Keaton's latest starring vehicle, is the film that will be shown at the Teatro on the Fourth o~ July and also on Wednesday, July 3, w1th Buster in his first "dressed up" role.
