:pecember 13, 1929 WILMETTE Marion Deering McCormick of Chicago and Mrs. Barbara Deering Danielson of Boston. Charles Deering's father, William Deering, was the donor of the present Fisk hall, erected in 1898 and named in honor of the late Prof. Herbert Fisk, principal of Northwestern university academy from 1873 to 1904. LIFE 21 University to Spend One Hundred Million on Evanston Campus Plans for a 100-million-dollar expansion and development of the Northwestern university Evanston campus during the next 50 years are in progress, it was revealed this week alon~ with the announcement of a gift of $1,000,000 for a new general library building. This gift. made by the family of the late Charles Deering of Evanston, formerly chairman of the board of the International Harvester company, will make possible erection of a new library as the central and first unit in thr~ general expansion plans. It wilt be known as the Charles Deering library. James Gamble Rogers , architect for the buildings on McKinlock campus, has already been commissioned to draw plans for the library, and ground for the new structure will be broken in June, it was announced. The present library was built in 1893, a gift in large part of Orrington Lunt, a charter member of the hoard of trustees and for -some time its president. It is planned to remodel thi5 building and use it as a library for the English department. New buildings called for in the expansion program are halls of science, education, speech and theater and music, a women's building and a chapel. Santa Claus to Appear at Shawnee Club Party Santa Claus is scheduled to appear in person at ·the children's party which will feature Christmas week festivity at Shawnee Country club Saturday afternoon, December 28. It is promised to be the biggest and best party yet held for the club children, and there will be ~ tree lavishly decorated and shining in the bay window of the lounge. Parents are invited to join with the youngsters in the merry-making-, ~nd mothers who are members are asked to send the names of their children to the dub office. A dance for gitls and boys of grades 6, 7 and 8 will be in order Friday e\·ening, December 27, and that will also i be a Christmas party. Holiday happenings will lead up to the big New Year's eve ball when there will be dinner parties prece_ding and special entertainment. Dancing will begin at 9. Two orchestras will provide the music. Breakfast will be served in the large dining room after 2 in the morning. All reservations for this party must be made before December 26, and it is urged that they be given attention by December 16. Last Sunday there was a musical program and there will be another next Sunday afternoon. There will be a dance for young people of college age the evening of December 28.
