Company Thursday The seventh week of opera in the new home on Wacker Drive will mark the debut of a young American lyric soprano who joined the Chicago Civic opera this season-Hallie Stiles. Miss Stiles was born in California, the daughter of a university professor. She early began her vocal studies and so successful was she in her chosen work that she has appeared for the last three years in leading lyric roles in Paris where she is familiarly known as "The American darling of the Opera Comique." Richard Wagner's "Lohengrin" has been chosen as the vehicle in which this American girl will make her bow to Chicago audiences, and the date is Thursday evening, December 19. It will be the first performance this '>Cason of the great Wagnerian music drama which proved one of the most popular offerings of the 1928-29 season. Miss Stiles will sing the role of the gentle Elsa. Maria Olszewska will again appear as the · pagan princess, Ortrud. Rene Maison will be the enchanted knight; Robert Ringling the Telramund, Alexander Kipnis the King Henry and Desire Defrere the King'::; Herald. Egon Pollak will conduct. The final performances of the sixth week are "La Forza · del ·Destino," scheduled for this afternoon at 2, and "Faust," to be given tonight at 8, popular prices prevailing for the eyc ning performance.
