LIFE :-.?:/ Harper and Nygaard to Attend Teachers' Meeting Next Week The \Vilmette Public schools will be represented at the seventy-sixth annual meeting of the Illinois State Teachers' association at Springfield next week by Supt. ]. R. Harper. Mr. Harper is president of the Superintendents' and Principals' Association of Northeastern Illinois. E. L. Nygaard, of Wilmette, superintendent of the Joseph Sears school, will represent Kenilworth at the state teachers' meeting. Mr. Nygaard is a member of the committee to confer with the board of trustees of the State Teachers' Pension and Retirement ~und. This committee will meet at 5 o'clock next Thursday afternoon at the Abraham Lincoln hotel in Springfield. The state teachers' meeting this year wilt be a three-day session, beginning Thursday night, December 26, and continuing through Saturday, December 28. The Abraham Lincoln hotel has been selected as . the teachers' headquarters. All general sessions of th~ convention will be held in the ·:entennial building. Prominent Speakers Among the noted educators and speakers who will address the general sessions of the convention are: Miss A. Evelyn Newman, Miss Mabel Carney, Dr. Charles Hubbard Judd, and Dr. Harry Elmer Barnes. Miss Newman is professor of English at Colorado State Teachers' coltege, Greeley, Colo. She has just completed her doctor's degree in the University of Dublin, Ireland, and has had much travel experience and many contacts with the leaders in international affairs, particularly in her activities with the League of Nat ions. She will speak on the "International Note in Literature" at 11 o'clock Friday morning. Miss Carney, a graduate of the Northern Illinois State Teachers' college at DeKalb, is now associate professor of rural education at Teachers' college, Columbia university. At 2 o'clock Friday afternoon she wilt address the convention on "The Challenge of the Country School to Illinois Educaters." His subjects will be "Types of Social Instruction" and "Reconstruction of the School Program." Dr. Judd has degrees from numerous colleges and universities ·in America and Europe and is the author of many books and monographs on educational subjects. Dr. Barnes. who · is scheduled to speak on "!\ew History and Social Studies" at the Friday evening session. is a widely known educator, lecturer, and writer. His list of activities, positions, societies, and achievements is one of the longest in "Who's Who in America."
