I January 3, 1930 WI LMET T E LI F E North Shore Scout News Why Boys' Life? By James E. W eat Tells in Verse Why He Wanta Boy to Be a Scout When he is big enough, For every Scout I know about, Has got the proper stuff. He's just a little fellow now, 'foo small to join a Troop, But he c·a n give a rousing "wow" And stand without a stoop. It is the single link in the organiza· I want my boy to be a Scout, tion of the Boy Scouts of America that helps directly to make the .boy conscious of the fact that he belongs to an organization national and international in its scope. It helps directly by its stories featuring Scouts, and its dramatization of the Scout in every conceivable circumstance to make the boy think of himself ·at all times as a Scout. Where this fails the program of Scouting fails. Boys' Life has made the Scout story possible. It does more than any other agency to dramatize the "Game of Scouting" through its stories of pioneers and Scouts, tracking and trailing and other activities of the old time Scout. Exploration, worth-while adventure, outdoor activity-the things our honorary Scouts represent-have never been brought to our boys in so vivid a manner as in the memorable series of True Adventures. lts stories are more than good reading. They have that direction, that subtle pointing, that make them character building material of the first order. It provides ,a means of national recognition of boy achievement, and thereby provides a spur to local interest. It gives Scouting information. Several departments provide a steady stream of hints, ne,vs, notes, suggestions for activities on Scouting. It offers frequent material on nature lore, camping, outdoor activity, inspiring and practical. It promotes through the \Vorl_d Brotherhood, and is the only means the Bov Scouts of America has set up to constantly promote the Scouts' appreciation that he is a brother to every other Scout. Bovs' Life adds constantlY to the romanC'e of Scouting in publishing undertakings of Scouts, such as the Sea Scout trip to the Arctic, the Hiking in Europe and other features.
