Mrs. Hester Sproul Baker, 84, a Wilmette resident for almost 50 years, died Thursday in Evanston Hospital. The widow of the late John Clark Baker, she lived at 347 Maple Av. She is survived by one son, James. Mrs. Baker was elected president of the Woman's Club of Wilmette in 1920. In 1935 she was president of the Wilmette League of Women Voters. She served as a member and chairman of the Wilmette Playground Board from 1936 until 1942, and was elected Wilmette Girl Scout commissioner in 1939. Mrs. Baker also was a member of the Garden Club of Wilmette. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Wilmette chapel of the Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home. Burial was private.
