These Cén Doleagues, these groups of interested citizens, hold no office in- their comimuniti es,, but the tons where tbey: live are their towns, and they want to do wha he an oelp. TJIhe Civic League of Wilmette'is an! outstanding example of'sucéh an, organiza.- tion. Thi-s leageue holds regular monthly luncheon meetings at the University club in Chicago, to which it invites'- Wilmette citizens. The meetings are well at .tended, uparsof a hundred sometimeis being pre sent.- The purpose of this league is the'better acquaintance with problemns and plans'af-' fecting Minmette. The regular program calis for a presentation of some pertinent' subject by an authority, and subsequent discussion. Talks have been gi-yen on Zoning and Village Managership. It is far from the purpose of the league to dictate policies or action. Two of its purposes should be empbasized. Foremost is the purpose of getting enlightened in- formation about their own civic affairs. An equally important purpose. is to search for and fid the best qualified men and wonien for civic offices. It is certainly encouragirig to find in any comniunity citizens who are interested and unselfish enough to àevote two bours. out of a busy day to such work., 1931 -auto licenses' are beginning to a ppeýar.
