Aithough tbe season was shorte'i- cd by tbree weeks, the swimming program conducted -by the Play- ground and Recreation board at the Wilmette beach, reported a total participation of 6,780 for -the seven- weeks' season as, comparable with a total- of 8,135 for ýlàst year W'ith a ten-week. season.. Swiîmming lessons wereconducted three' days each week free' of charge tohoiders of beach tickets 'and two days each. week were devoted to playground children ýwho were taken down frôwm their playgr.ounds in cars and admitted tà the beach fre.e of charge. Every child 'who attendcd the piaygrounds and, Who did-not know how to swim was -given the priviiege:of taking lessonsduring the suummer. Two hours eac h week were de- voted ,to swimnming -tests and ýem- bicins were 'given to children wlio succeeded in passing the tests.1 For swimming,,sixty yards a fish emblemi was awarded and a W.
