Municipalities in the Chicago area are to be requested to adopt the plan of Chicago, requiring automobile owners to display on car windshields, stickers bearing duplicate, vehicle license numbers, it is announced. *This request, it. is said, is to be made by *Mayor Anton J. Cermak in his plans*to further.the auto-sticker campaign already -inaugurated in Chi- cago., a move to.thwart the illegal traffic ini vehicle tags. Iniquiry this week revealed that a request- of this nature has not as yet reached the Village boards of, the .north shore municipalities, and also brought forth general expression of opinion by 'officiaIs that there is no nleed to. adopt such a policy locally This opinio n is based on the fact that in the north shore veillages so f ew v"ehicle tags are, either .Iost or st olen,' that little ground is given for the illegal traffic which results in tag, thefts in large cities9. In Wilm-ette, for instance, during the entire year of 1930, a total of 4,470 vehicle tags were issued. The number lost or stolen during that period wasonly 6. The number is- sued so far this yearý is 4,611. In Kenilworth there 'has been. s suéd,,since January.1, 1931, a total of 832 vehic le. tags, an increase of 8 over the number issued for a cor- respondingperiod. in 1930. Out of th e 832 issued this year, only 5 duplicates have been requested, 4 of which were for lost tags and one for a stolen plate. During the entire year of 1930 a total 9f '3,785 vehicle tags were issued in Winnetka, whille for 'the present year, up to date, the numfber is 3,896, with four months to go. Here, also, thle number of reported lost or stolen tagsi ytrivial, it. is said, flot ex- ceeding--a-,dozen. In Glencoe, 1',760 vehicle tags have been issued so farti er vich is more than 100 over thé total issued for 1930. Here also, the caîl forÉ dupli- cate tags is almostf negligible.
