Sunday, af- ternoon, july 29, at 2:30 o'clock.. The event will be under direction of David C. Leach, 1417 Forest avenue, swim- mhing ins tructor at the Union" League club. These chainpionshiips wcrc inaugu- rated, by the Club Vista Del I.ago ii 1932 as an annual event, but wert' omitted last year. They are. expected to be held annually hereafter. AIl or- ganized beaches along the iiorth shore are eligible to entry. A series of six contests lias been arranged, aIl of whiclh should be of David C. Leach intense interest, not onlly to the testants, but to the spectators as Thev are: Provlde Six Contests wvell. 1. 60-foot cross chest carry race, pr1ecded bY a 60-foot swim-. 2. 60-foot head -carry race, also pre- ceded by a 60-foot 'swim. 3. Throwing life preserver foi- ac<ur- acy, standard Red Cross equipinert il fl( rules. 4. Fireman's lift race, 50 y-ardsI. Fromn the starting Uine rescuer wil run into the water, get patient and returil to the starting line. The patient is to be carried with firenan's lift. 5. 60-foot swrn, fully dressed Iin pants, shirt and shoés. Contestants to remove clothing and return to stai'tiflg mark. 6. A ti fiial respiration. Fin e Trophy Award Both the beachi represented by the winning team and the individual mem- bers ofthe team w~ill receive awvards. To the beach..goes possession for one vear of the Vista Del Lago life sav- ing trophy. The members of the win- ning team will. receive go' d medals emblemnatic of the north shore 1f e saving cbampionships. Entries for -the. event wvill close Wednesday, July 25, and should be addressed to David C. Leach, care -Club Vista Del Lago, No Man's LUnd, Wil- mette. According to Mr. Leach, only stand- ard, Red Cross methods as outlined in tbe Red Cross manual No. 1005 will 6e' used. Teams are to consist of two men, one, of hicb rmust be regularly employed -as a guard by the beach represented. Any beach may enter as mnany teams as desired. The team scor- 29 ing the highest mnmber of points will be delared the winner. Judges and referees of the contests will be selected by the Chicago chapter of týe -American Red Cross. Mrs. Helen S. Gage, North.Shore Pioneer, Is Claimed by Death Mrs. Helen ShepardGg,~io of Asahel' Gage, passed awav at the home of ber son, John -S. Gage, in St. Petersburg, FIa., last Saturday. Mrs. Gage . vas a member of one of WVilmette's pioneer familles. Born, lin the town of Warren, Lake count, fitI, on May-30, 1845, Mrs. Gage wvas married to Asahel Gage on December 18, 1867. She and ber busband then went to Chicago to live. After the Chicago fire they moved to Wauke- gan, where they lived for. about a year and f rom there moved to XVil- mette. In 1873 they built the residence now known as 1134 Elmwood avenue,' Minmette. Rieturna -ïo Wilmnette, In 1879, because of the health of Mr. Gage-, Mrs. Gage and bier husbaiùd moved to Vineland,-N. J., where they resided until the deatb of Mr. Gage lu 1893. After that Mrs. Gage witIL ber. family' moved back to th 'e old bouse in Wilmette. In this bouse she had resided until the ast two v'ears, whichi were spent at ber son's home in St. Petersburg. Mrs. Gage became a member' of the Woman's Club of Wilmette in 1895, four years after the club's or- ganization, and she served it as presi- dent in 1896 and 1897 and again ln 1899 and 1900, during which periods, according to a contemporary, Mrs. Gage "was a very efficient president and very muclh loved." .She also was one of the organizers of the Public Scbool Art league, one of whose purposes- was to, provide pictures for the varlous sehool rooms throughout the village.. Mrs. Gage served as vice-preMient of the Art, league for a number of years. Three Sons Survive Surviving ber are three sons,, John S. Gage of St. Petersburg, FIa., Asahel W. Gage of Clearwater, Fla.. and Prof. Victor R. Gage of Ithaca, ,N. Y., four grandcbildren and four great grandcbildren. The funeral services are to be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at the John S. Gage borne in -St. Peters- burg.
