WILMETTE LIFE October 11. 1934 Gives Lecture on P Christian Science Editor's Note: Appended is a coin- ment on! a Lwecture on Christian 'Science given Friday evening, October 4,. in the First Church of Chris~t, Scientist, in WiI- mette, by Professor 1Hermiann S. Hering of Boston. Professor Hering is a meni-, ber of the~ Board. of Lectureship of The Mother Chureh, the First Church of Christ, .Scientist, in Boston ; Mass. kAniong the points touched upon by Prof. Hermianni S. Hering of Bos-, ton.. during his lecture on *Christain Science: Sonie Rudiinental. Applica-- tions," were the teaching of this re- ligion regarding the true nature of God, of Mila, as God's expression; the unusual characteristics of Mary Baker Eddy, the necessity fôr exact- ness and correctnless iin the study and application of Christ ian Science; the unreality of matter and mlaterial ex- istence, and the reality of the spirit- ual; and the importance of looking to God, infinite Mind. as the supply of mail's needs. Profes son Hering, who was weII acquainted personally w i t h Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, declared that no one on earth had as dlean a sense of God's incorporeality as infinite Mind, as Love, as had Mrs. Eddy, yet ber humility and selflessness were beyond what would seem humanly possible. She had a deep affection for mankind, he said, and many nowv have a bigher, clearer sense of God, iin accordance with an enlightened interpretation, of the Bible, because of ber revelation. To undenstand or practice Chris- tian Science, Professor Hering ex- plained, one nmust acquire a knowl- edge of spiritual tnuth, by turning thoughit from materialism toward di- vinity, and cultivating a spiritualized consciousness. Understanding of Christian Science, he said, is gained only through genuine study of 'the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, coupled with prayen. As in ail walks of life it is the universal experience that, the achievement of success in any direction requires application, so in Christian Science, he pointed out.- the application of the truth, as re- vealed in Science and Health wvth Key to the Scriptures, is of vital imi- portance, not only for the student's( immediate welfare, but especially for 1 spiritual pnogress. oi Mary- Janet, daughter oi the John G.
