It is as unwise for us to underestimate our ability as it is foolish to exalt them. The charge of "old logyism" and “being behind the times," when taken in cona nection with what actually exists, only brings out more clearly the fact that the village owes its stability to the integrity and conservatism of its citizens, and in consequence thereoi is prepared to sail along with the prosperous breezes that are now filling its sails. or in case of a storm arising will be fully prepared to weather the gale. On all moral questions the people of Downers Grove have generally stood [or right principles, and il necessary to maintain them have been aggressive. in the past our citizens have been, as a rule, prompt to meet the de. mands made upon them, and we have faith to believe that they will still continue so to do. The pathway of every human life is strewn along with mistakes that have been made, but a wise Providence has made provision whereby many of them can be rectified; what is true of an individual is just as true of a village made up as it is Ms collection of individuals. These mistakes should n be magnified but should be remedied whenever the ability and oppor nity to do so presents itsell. ‘ Our churches and public schools should r eive the heartiest support; ‘ religion and education, good morals and i elligencc are elements that . are second to none lot the highest devel ments of the community.
