Mr. .Dag~ gen was formerly of Bigh‘land Perk, and from here Went to Benion Har-' bor. Mich , where he was injured in ’a runaway last summer._ He was brought to :1 hospital in Chicago and hopes Were entertained for his re- covery, but a short time ago he had a relapse and fidully died of pneu- mania. The Military Academy. The Academy had a 'pleasant suprise last Saturday in the shape of a visit from Lieut. W. 8. Dean. N. M. l A. '94. Licut. Dean is now tirst lieutenent 15th Cavalry U. S. A. and has just returned from'the Philippines. A jolly theater party. accom- panied by Captain Reddicli, went in_ to see the “Pride of Peace," at Me Vickers Saturday nigth. The boys had a glimpse of Sol Wolf’s Thanksgiving dinner to the News Boys and it appealed 'so to the cadets that they nll‘went to the ;Palmer House and tried to E‘fill‘ lop" a la newsboy. ‘ 1 The third of the seriewf faciilty‘ lectures was given last Saturday evening by Lieut. Jos. Hunter; the foot hall coach. Lieut. Hunter took for his subject, Porto Rico and told of his experiences in that island with General Miles’ army during the Spanish-American war. _Mr. Hunter told of numerous humorous-and pathetic incidents together with numerous facts of permanent value to those inter- ested in our new possession. _ R, majority of the boys left Tuesday morning for their Thanks- giving vacation. They returned Friday night and school will begin again Saturday morning. About thirty of the cadets remained at the Academy and enjoyed a grand Thanksgiving dinner which was served by the Academy’s eon:- petent. chef. All the members of the faculty with their families attended this dinner, so Colonel *Davidsd‘n; was not lonesome on Thanksgiving day. . -On last Wednesday afternoon the Cadet team met the Lake For- est University foot ball team and were defeated by a score of 21 to 0. The Varsity team were much heavier and quicker than the cadets and should have made a larger score but the cadets were plucky and held them down. In the first half neither side was able to score, but in the second half the cadets tired. under the rushes of ‘their opponents and. allowed the latter _to make {our touch downs. The Varsity showed a- lamentable weak- ness in goal kicking; missingthree out of' four goals .with the ball directly in front of the goal posts.
