Mayor Hastings requested the Pub- licity Commission to announce that me contract for improving Green Bay Road from Park Ave. to the southern limits of Highland Park would be ready for signatures Monday or Tues- day of this week and work on it be- gun not later than June lst. The main feature of this improvement is to be a brick pavement twenty feet wide. Moreover, the Board of Local Im-' provements has decided that three concrete bridges shall be erected im- mediately on the following streets: lluzel. Linden and North St. Johns. A project which has grown as it’ rolled. like a snowball, is the coming1 Patriotic Rally set for May 30ml Memorial Day at Fort Sheridan. Major Vail tells us that it was only two weeks ago that the National Ca- det Corps League began to agitatei the matter, and that now, with the permission of Major Grate to use the grounds of the Fort, and the active interest of the Preparedness Commit- tee. the affair had in a few days as- sumed tremendous proportions. Ma- jor Vail with several gentlemen in his automobile have been visiting neigh- boring towns and diligently sowing seeds of organization. In each town the mayor has been asked to appoint a committee of five men, each of whom, in turn. appoints five other men to look after the various parts of the proposed parade for Memorial Day. The project has already spread itself beyond the county limits and will he participated in by Evanston and other outside cities. One com- mittee has in charge the organizing of the fraternal orders of its town. another the business men, another the Boy Scouts. and another the school children. The parade will take place in the morning and be reviewed by the uâ€" sembled mayors of the towns repre- sented and other oflicials. The motor Cytlliti will be arranged IS a motor resume for defence, etc. There will be rifle contests also in the morning. In the afternoon all will ensemble en masse and listen to speeches and the award of prizes. A great gal: day is hoped fair. and a memorable demon- stration for prepuredneu. Mr. Thomas Wyles was asked about 3 Highland Park's proposed part in the Chicago Preparedness Parade, and he reported that it had been decided that Highland Park should not be repre< sented by the Rifle Club's going in a body. as had first been proposed. Many Highland Park men would par- ticipate in the parade. but only in- dividually. or as members of Chicago organizations. A! Glencoo School Auditorium. Gloncoo. Jimmie Collins, who has been palying with Duluth in the Northern League for the past four years, has signed to play with Highland Park for the rest of the season. Haring acquired the services of a man of Collins' ability demonstrates to the fans that the good sports behind this club are trying their very best to give Highland Park the greatest team it has ever had and also the very best .that can be obtained outside of the imajor leagues. They already have six minor leaguers and one ex-major leaguer on the club now. This good sportsmanship deserves the hearty support of the entire city. The grounds have been entirely re-i modeled. the outfield reminds one of a golf course and the playing field with the expected improvements Will give the city it bull park that all the fans will be proud of.
