IT. Singing to he 11““ Ivy )lr. (‘arl Booth The lmer-(‘hurch War Work Com- mittee u! Chicago has arranged for a series of evening‘meetings on (he inst two Sunday nights at Nox'emtn-r and the first two of December at about fifteen centers in Chicago and its suburbs at which different speak- ers will give a message on the gem eral subject 0! "The Church and the War." emphasizing partlcuiarly the problems of reconstructinn. All the speakers are men of noted plutfurm ability who have consented to give' their services through the l11ter-’ Church War Work Committee. Amongst athers are Professor Her- bert L. Willett, [)r. Gunsaulus nnd‘ Eatâ€"Governor Deneen. 3 Highland Park is very furtunatv in being chosen by the (‘ummittee as one of the fifteen centers. The (our meetings will be held in the main auditnrium of the Presbyterian Church. because that church hns‘ the largeet seating capacity. The meotǤ ings will not be under the Presbym terian auspices but will be in charge; of a committee of layman made up} from different churches in Highland' Park. it is to be hoped that they cnnl reflect a community rather than a denominational affair. t Before each meeting begins there will be a period of community sing- ing under the leadership of Mr. Carl Booth. Those who attended the week-l ly sings for the men in uniform last summer at the Episcopal and Pres- byterian Churches know what comâ€" munity singing means under Mr. Booth's leadership. At the close of the singing period the speaker of the eveningwrill give his message. At each meeting a collection will be taken to defray the expenses of the series. The present seems to be the psy- chological time to begin the Com- munity Sunday Evening Meeting in Highland Park which has been found so successful in other places. The Sunday Evening Club in Chicago has been in successful operation in Chiâ€"l cago for more than ten years. Dur- ing the last three winters two churches in Wilmette combined for a similar purpose. So successful was the plan that this winter all the churches is Wilmette will combine; their resources. Other suburban cen-‘ ters have proved the, valun of the: same scheme. notably Ravenswood! and Oak Park. The increasing popuâ€"l lation of Highland Park. more par-i ticularly through the influx of menl in uniform on Saturdays and Sun-i days. which will be larger than evâ€" er this winter because of the en; larged program of the War Camp Community Service Board. seems to demand a community service on Sun- day nights. ' If it is found that the series of four Sunday evening meetings fulo fills a need in our community life. the plan will be continued through the winter. The opening meeting will be in the Presbyterian church on No: vember 17th. The speakers for the _four Sunday nights will be announced next week.
