The maximum tax for, park lmaintenance is strictly limited b'y law lto forty cents on the hundred dollars "of assessed valuation With the as- Isossmont roll at hand which was puh {‘lishml in Thi- Highland Park Prt-ss for iJnly I". one can readil) figure how Ethix tax will he distributed. A park tax of forty cents on the hun- lt is obvious that a unifiedjfllgh» land Park Park District involves for the taxpayer a very small expense icompared with the dividend that be will get in use and enjoyment of the parks. On the other hand every om 10f our citizens will derive some di- Irect pleasure from its use. Free nerving the tracts which are beauti- ifnl and useful for outdoor recreation for old and young will enhance tht valuation of our residence propert) and bring big returns in the enrich» ‘ment of the lives of all of our citi» zens. It is probable that the average asses» ed valuation of improved property west of the railroad as a whole does not much exceed $350.00 and the av- erage maximum tax for park .malm tenance would therefore not exceed $1.40 a year. This would not appear burdensome even to the property holder of smallest resources. Bonds may be issued at not to ex- ceed 3 per cent of the assessed vaL nation which for the whole ofiHighâ€" land Park is $2,500,000.00, making a bond maximum of 875.000.00. if $5,000.00 is returned each year the tax to retire the bonds and pay inâ€" terest on ,the whole indebtedness the first year wduid amount to 3.5 mills on each dollar of assessed valuation or 35c on each 3100 of assessed vai- uétlon. This for the assumed instance 0! a house paying on an assess“ vai- uation of $350.00 would give almaxi- mum bond tax of 81.23 or including the park maintenance tax of $21.40. a total of $2.63.
