Material existence shows that. cvil l.‘ dcstructivc and that material conditions pass away. Therefore beâ€" ing, to lac ctcrnal, must hc spiritual and wholly good. (John 3, 6). .Gud as [lie-[my Mind. and ('reuh'on. Spiritual or Mental It is evident to anyone who has stu- died the Scriptures closely that when Jesus declared God to be Spirit he was not declaring God to lemme indefinite abstraction, but he was. revealing and describing the must certain, the most available and the most stable entity that could posisihly be imagined,~â€"Mrs. Eddy has once and for all taken this wmtd Spirit, out 01 the realm of mys~ ticism and superstition and placed it in the realm of reason and science by explaining that Spirit is really divine Mind. or is the infinite Intelligence which knmvs, and knows divinely or truly. It is certain that when Jesus used the term Spirit he meant divine Mind, for on one occasion he explained quite naturally to his listeners “the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, . , , " (John 6.83). In fact infinite Truth, which includes all divinv mentality, is Spirit. Chrisâ€" tian Svioni-e, therefore, teaches that God is divine Mind of Spirit and that divine Mind ix‘ Love. Asa God is ever- present and omnipotent, the divine Mind Whii-h is Lave must therefore be the only Mind. Also divine Mind and its right n‘mtal activity must be om» nipotent and irresistible. E 'ctn if: one did nnt believe in the Scri tunes; is or can he. must he the emanatiun or expressmn of this 0110 and only muse. Gm]. As God is immutable and in without shadow of turning, His crratlnn must be .an emanation or ex- pression of immutable Spirit and must consequently be whully spiritual. The Scriptures use several terms for God which all Christians have accepted but which few Christians have understond practically and in- telligently. Mrs. Eddy has applied these same terms to God. but she has logically accepted the conclusions about God which these terms indicate. For instance, the Scriptures 1teach that God is Love, but they also teach that God is Spirit, consquently Mrs. Eddy has concluded that Love is Spirit and therefore that Love is not to be found in material conditions. Also the Scriptures declare that Spirit or God is infinite and Christian Sci- ence lfkewise lOg‘ically concludes that matter. er material existence, is not the truth of being. In the same way the Scriptures teach that God is the nnly cause and croatnr and Christian Science therefore accepts the fact that the only real or true existence there h ”,.V“ v. .v --â€"~ v‘cl-a’§ unc Axuuaqu” I . it is of course necessary for us to con- 5 enqe teaches th sider what God is befqre we can pro-l God; operates 1 cowl. ;conditions'.. but ‘ Pupular theology has regarded Godéterial conditiuns ‘85 a distant beingg-to be sought. inf (3) The mat times of need. through prayer. Christian Science, there. -forc, teaches that in proportion as a {man understands .the' allness and the zinfinite reality of Spirit, God, divine iMind, and the temporal nature of ma‘ lterial existence, in purportion as he istrives to lay down hisl false sense of ,life as material and finite, and to at. ltain his true life as God’s expression, tholly spiritual or divinely mental, fin that roportion is he‘ truly adher~ sing to C rist Jesus’ teaching. In fact, ins a man banishes from his thinkin ,thc qualities of the carnal mind one last idolatry, hatred, Wrath, and many {other phases of the carnal mind, all I of which Paul describes as-“the works *of the flesh” (Gal. v.7), and as he at- tains in his dail life those qualities Pkul describes as pirit” (Gal. v.), then he is truly layim down the false sense of life. This process of spir- itual thinking and living demonstrates the infinite presence and/power of the divine Mind, God, before which the mailed carnal 'mind, with its false mental conditions and its-mater- iality, gives place. Paul fur-t says, “the fruit'of the Spirit is c, joy, peace, longjsufl'ering; gent ess, goodness, faith, meekness, te‘ ance:" (Gal. v.), and he adds, “against such there is no law.” (Gal. v.). A Christian Scientist, therefore, finds that as he strives to let thinking and his life crpwssiitheec divine qualities, or as hostrit-‘es to gal!) the Mind of Cfipist, the qualities of the so-cnllhd carnal mind and their effects, sin, disease and death lust! their suppositionnl presence and pow» or in his thinking and in his life. his 'things which are not seen, and which lair-e divinely real, then it truly has lprayed, and this rayer has to m gaxtent delivered rom mortality and gtmm the etfects of mortality, sin. dis- lease, death and limitation of every fkind. Since salvation, however, is in- idividual, the important factor is the {consecrated thinking of the indivi- 1 dual. ‘ True Law and Government as Re- repled by Christian Science , All thinking people recognize that ,we are to-day living at a time when : humanity’s sense of divine law has not sufficed to deliver it from war, from .bolahevism, from class hatred, and ifrem other dangerous tendencies. The fact is that humanity is still working Ion the old 'basis of the Mosaic law, :which says an eye for an eye, an 'men have not yet be n to perceive and to demonstrate t law of Love iwhich Jesus declared and reiterated time and time again to be the only :way of freedom from human unrest. ers. Eddy glowers that .3'ust as health' and holiness {are divine facts which the individual must obtain and retain for himself :through spiritual thinking, so also glow is a divine attribute which every {individual must demonstrate for him- «sclf. As a matter of fact, Christian Science teaches that what humanity really needs to'be healed of primarily, is its faith in things ma- terial, or of its material thinking. Every sin, every disease. every sor- row, every material condition, ever'y catastrophe, every phase of fleeting mortality. Christian Science declares to be but an effect of material thinkâ€" ing, or of the carnal mind, and Chris- tian Science therefore propose: to heal the individual and the world of these things by first correcting their mater: ial thinking, or their false material theories, with the Mind of Christ, or with spiritual thinking".
