Lake For-T est. Deertield. Fort Sheridan. Higliwood and Iiake Bluff. i‘ To the south is another district directory'tcoiitainintr listings; of subscribers in towns from Glencoe south ti) Evanston. In the! district north is another comprising Lake (Toutity, Illinois. includ-l ing Waukegan, Zion and towns west of Wank gan. There is airâ€"l other district west of us covering subscri ers in Arlington' Heights. Barrington. Lake Zurich, Mt. Pi'ost'iwct and Palatinei These several directories. we understand. serve the various com-' munities and furnish the necessary information for the sub-l scribers talking within a radius of 13 or 20 miles. We also learnedl that the telephone company recently introduced an enlarged dis-‘ trict directory for the benefit of subscribers west of the city of? Chicago. 1 We have seen one of these directories (the print is a little small-» er. but well set up. and perfectly readable in three column form) and believedt is of greater convenience to the public than the; directories now in use along the north shore. . This new directory contains the names ahd telephone num-, bers of subscribers formerly shown in three directories. covering 32 towns. ‘ We believe Highland Park and Lake Forest ought to have something similar along the north shore to relieve our troubles, namely â€"- a combined directory for the entire gnorth shore. This? plan would ‘give most subscribers the names pf people they fre- quently call ;along the entire north shore and should go a long wayI to improve service to nearby towns. For those subscribers whose business necessitates calls to other towns not listed in the present Highland Park and Lake Forest directory. Upon application to the local manager. the specific local directory heeded will be sup-V plied. HOWever. even this would only be a temporary solution. The better plan for Highland Park and LakefForest would be a consolidated directory for the north shore. sfet up in the same way as the one now in use in the towns west of Chicago. Then again it may be that there are many subscribers in High- land Park and Lake Forest who frequently caE people in (‘hicago and for these subscribers a Chicago directory may be obtained. by applying to the local manager. i l J READ THE NEWSPAPERS " lTwenty-three hundred What do you know about Xerxes. king of Persia. and seventy-one years ago he was invading Greece with an army of 5.283.220 . soldiers.
