The Elks, how- ever, are also strengthened by obtain- ing many local stars and rounding them into shape. Greenslade. Clark. DeLong. Ilise. Hessler. White and Williams are now playing and hat- ting in midseason form. They have also the service of three new local stars, Gerken. Peters and llalton. The management of the (‘olumhus A. C. remarked that the Highland Park‘ team was their stifl'est upzuwi- tion this season. The Japanese “Virgin‘s Bower” (Clematis paniculata) is also one of the finest porch vines. Inconspicuous- in early spring. it makes its growth early enough to give shade from the mid-summer sun, and in autumn is a mass of beautiful flowers. which almost hide the vine. Another fragrant climber is the Akebia. It is very ornamental and graceful and especially well suited to sunny positions. Vines for Walls For covering walls, nothing equals the ivies.
