Age 86; born in Rock Island; 30-year resident of Northfield; graduated from Rock Island H.S. in 1934, Devitt Prep School in Washington, D.C. in 1935, and U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1940; Pearl Harbor survivor attached to the USS Phoenix on December 7, 1941 and awarded the Bronze Star Medal as the gunnery officer during the bombardment of Corregidor, Philippine Islands, commanding officer of the USS Maddox during the Korean Conflict and awarded the Gold Star, retired in June 1965 after a 25-year naval career; preceded in death by a sister Lila Mae - Date of Publication
