Alex Lyall and Bella Jacobs of Scottish descent; grew up in Scotland in both Dundee and Edinburgh; played soccer in Scotland; earned bachelor's degree and played four years of soccer at UCLA, master's degree in history at USC, graduated from The General Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York City in 1943, awarded D.D. degree by General Seminary in 1975; rector of St. Matthias Church in Trenton NJ, St. Lukes Church in Roselle, 26 years at St. David's Church in Glenview IL; president of Standing Committe of the Diocese of Chicago; staff member of Chapel of the Cross of Chapel Hill, served 24 Episcopal churches in North Carolina Diocese; 1985-86 interim dean of Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans; associate of The Society of St. John the Evangelist since 1941, and Sisters of St. Margaret since 1944
