Age 78; longtime resident of southeast Evanston, served 3 decades on the federal bench in Chicago; born in Evanston and grew up in Escanaba on Michigan's Upper Peninsula; graduate of Escanaba H.S. in 1948 and U. of Michigan in 1952; served as a U.S. Army sergeant in Korea from 1952-54; graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1957; elected to IL General Assembly 1965-66, Alderman in Evanston City Council 1971-75, served as chief judge from 1990-95, assumed senior status June 20, 1995; first marriage ended in divorce and preceded in death by second wife, Nancy - Date of Publication
