Born in Chicago IL to Marion Warren Steel and Sanger Bright Steel. Attended Francis Parker School in Chicago and graduated from Deerfield Academy (Deerfield MA) in 1933 and from Williams College (Williamstown MA), Earned M.Ed. from Graduate Teachers College in Winnetka IL in 1938. Married Miriam (Mim) Fetcher on June 22, 1940, in Traverse City MI. After service in U.S. Army, taught at North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka IL from 1946 to 1966. Moved to Williamstown MA in 1966 & retired from teaching in 1991. Summer resident of Leland MI from 1947 to 2013. Preceded in death by wife and by brothers Munro and Sanger Steel. - Date of Publication
