Age 77; former resident of Evanston IL, moved to Algonquin in 1992 and retired to Minneapolis MN in 2000, died of lung cancer; born in Peoria IL to Clarence and Ethel Conklin; father an officer in U.S. Army, moved frequently during childhood; after WWII, settled in Davenport IA; right leg amputated when diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma at age nine; state debate champion/valedictorian at Davenport H.S.; BA and MA in English, PhD in Education from Northwestern U.; career in teaching and educational administration, worked at Niles East H.S., Kendall College, Roosevelt U., Northwestern U., Northeastern Illinois U. and ended her career as Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences at McHenry County College
