The number of students enrolled in them last year amounted to approximately 327,000 of which 314,000 were white, and 13,000 colorâ€" ed stndents, ‘and their staff comprised 23,188 professors and instructors. All of the institutions are stateâ€"supported and their total income in 1925â€"26 was $129,200, the federal government conâ€" tributing $4,134,000. * Avisory Committee Is Named| For Great Work; Departâ€" ment of Interior Is In Charge In connection with the formation of the special advisory committee, final plans for the conduct of the survey bytheburuuofedmtionveredso made public through a statement is sued today by Commissioner John J. Tigert of the bureau. It follows: Study of Accomplishments > "This survey is a national study of the accomplishments, the status and future objectives of the landâ€"grant type of education, and not a collection of surveys of individual institutions. The functions of this type of educaâ€" tional institution as originally estabâ€" lished by congress and as developed during the past threeâ€"quarters of a century are public and democratic in nature. They have practical purposes which are worthy of full recognition as belonging to the field of higher being conducted entirely from this point of view. "While the bureau is maintaining entire control of the work and is asâ€" suming full responsibility {ar the reâ€" port as finally issued, thi,diflerenti groups already organized ‘to promote.: The interest of special aspects of landâ€" grant college education and the inâ€" dividuals who are directing and who serve on their staffs are being utiâ€" lized to the fullest extent. The rank and file as well as the leaders of landâ€" grant college education are being conâ€" sulted and given an opportunity to express opinion.
