Watson of Indiana, The measure, providing this huge sum of money for highway construcâ€" tion, stipulates the funds are to be apportioned among the 48 states in the same proportion as the Federalâ€" aid program. It is a companion bill to H.R.101,42, introduced in the House on January 30 by Rrepresentaâ€" tive Edward E. Browne, and which has already been endorsed by the Governors and State «Mighway Deâ€" partments of twenty states. Bill Is Offered to Utilize ‘This Money For Federal Conâ€" struction of Paved Highâ€" _ The measure, which is being fosâ€") tered by the American Motorhul association, is unique in that it will} solely _ through the â€" payment Of French bouds which will mature August 1, 1929 and which were given in payment of more than $2,000,000,â€" 000 worth of equipment and supplies. Will Speed Up Building "Its passage will mean the speedâ€" ing up five times of the present highâ€" construction program in the United way construction program in the United States," President J. Borton Weeks told the House committee on Roads during the hearings on the Browne bill. "The measure will have the undivided support of the 23,480,â€" 000 automobile owners in the country and should speedily be enacted into law as it is economically sound" deâ€" clared Si. Mayer, Viceâ€"President of the American Motorists association and President of The Automobile club of Illinois. ~ Many of the people who laugh at the Prince of Wales for falling off his horse, are getting ready themâ€" selves to figure in an automobile acâ€" cident from reckless driving. Acquittals, paroles, and pardons seem to indicate there has been a gréat reduction in the wages of sin. In the introduction of the measure, Senator Watson made it clear that this sum is in addition to the regular Federalâ€"aid appropriation of $75,â€" 000,000 each year for 1929 and 1930, declaring that both sums are needed to speed up the highway construction program in the United States to keep abreast of the increasing motor trafâ€" fic. The Watson bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Post Offices and Post Roads and hearings on the measure are expected to be held withâ€" in the next three weeks. Under the federalâ€"aid proportionâ€" ment the largest sum will go to Texas which will receive $21,937,000 for highway construction, ranging down to Delaware which will receive nearâ€" ly two millions under the bill.
