Gall scored a triumph when she was a guest artâ€" ist at Ravinia late last season. As the wilful Manon, Mme. Gall creates a character study that has genuine depth. She sets forth the many sides of Manon‘s fickle character so tellâ€" ingly that not a detail is omitted from the picture she draws. Mario Chamâ€" lee will be heard as the young and romantic DesGrieux, a lyric role that fits him like the proverbial glove. In this part he has an opportunity for that beautiful singing which disâ€" tinguishes his work and makes it heart appealing. Leon Rothier will be heard as the elder Des Grieux. and will give it that sympathetic treatment which has distinguished his work in the past. Others in the cast are Mr. Defrere, Miss Maxwell, Miss Nwarthout, Mr. Mojica, Mis Falco, Mr. Ananian and Mr. Cchanâ€" ovsky duct. The week will close on Saturday night, July 7, with that ever popu lar Verdi work, "I Trovatore" with its wealth of thrilling action, dramatic arias and stirring ensembles. With the perfect ceast available for this opera at Raviniay it takes on new sizâ€" nificance and every presentation of it becomes memerable. For instance Mimne. Elsabeth Rethberg, a dramatic oprano who not only has unusual vocal power, but with it a tone of lyric beuuty, will be heard as Leonâ€" ora, while Giovanni Martinelli, a draâ€" mate tenor of world renown yet enc who is able to give remantic interâ€" pretation to the most heruic of roles will be Manfredo. â€" Mme.
