Last Saturday, almost the entire membership of Troop 33, of the Linâ€" ‘coln school,. turned <out to finish a clean up campaign in the school yard which was started the previous Satâ€" urday and to secure enough credit in hours forccivic service to earn the new civic service award of the north shore area council. 2 The scouts raked and graded th ground of "the Lincoln school ~after clearing away all of the debris left from building activities last fall â€"and also planted perennials about the grounds. All day long they shoveled and raked and pushed wheelbarrows back and forth toâ€"gccomplish their aiimn and when they finished the job;, Mr. Wright, principal of the school, came out and congratulated and thanked the boys for the work done. With the complétion of this" job Troop 33 has a total of almost two hundred hours of civic. service work for the first quarter of the year. This includes clearing snow from ‘sideâ€" walks, burning brush, picking up glass and service at headquarters. Plan Meeting on Beach «= The meeting planned by Troop 30 to take place on the beach had to be postponed due to cold weather_ on last Wednesday. . Present plans call for this meeting soon, which will take the form of a party. The panthers are giving the party to the flying eagles, who won the recent interâ€" i,patrol contest. â€" The ‘meeting last Wednesday was conducted by Mr. Hawkins and Mr. St. Peter. Tests were s were played, and the troop drilled. Mr. Van Dyke was unable to be presâ€" ent because of a sprained ankle. â€" Irvin Gosswiller and Charles Tyson, Troop 30. § . . _ â€"Organize Troop Committee ' Recently Mr. Stevens visited Troop 30 to ask if any of the fathersâ€"of members would like to serve on the troop committee. e & Mr. St. Peter is chairman and Mr. Nelson is the outdoor member of the committee. They have promised to| do all in their power to make Troop 30 a suceessful troop.â€"Scribe Chris Keller, Troop 30. f After Standard Troop â€"Award . The standard troop â€"award. will be given toâ€"each troop for â€"each month in which it holds at least three troop meetings with an avérage attendence of 75 per cent of the troop passing one ~scout test during the month. They must also take at least one hike with 50 per cent of the troop going and have at least one junior officers council meeting in which they â€"plan their programs for the troop. Troop 61 of Northbrook is working hard to reach the standard so they can get the award.â€" We hope we will win the award in April or May. â€" William Cray, Troop 61, Northbrook. Panther Patrol News The last meeting was a joint meetâ€" ing with Troop 52. â€" Mr. Plagge showâ€" ed us some slides of the first scout troops of Deerfield. « A good time was enjoyed by everyâ€" one. â€" Sunday we were all invited to Mr. Scheer‘s house, our scoutmaster. We hiked out at 2:30 p.m. and arâ€" rived at 2:45 p.m. Helmuth Peipenâ€" brok and Edward Brennan passed their fire making test. Afterwards we played aâ€"few games which were buckâ€"buck, and. baby in the hole. Aftâ€" erwards we ate our hot dogs and they tasted very good. We fell in by fours and had some instructions in marching. Thanks to Mr. Scheer for he is a regular fellow.â€"Patrol ‘leader Edward Brennan. Beforeâ€"Camp Rally May 20 The date for the Areaâ€"Wide Beâ€" foreâ€"Camp rally is set for Monday, ‘~May 20th, at. the : Deerfieldâ€"Shields high school. . At this rally will be presented all~ the troop awards, acâ€" éording to the new procedure, that will have been earned. Nearly every troop will receive some award. Sevâ€" ‘eral troops have already earned more than one. The five awards the troops are‘--y;:_o_ikihg for are the boys . life award, civic â€"service, standard troop, advancement, and camp‘ enrollment. This meeting will be a "pep" meetâ€" ing for summer camp with much of the time being turned to announceâ€" ments of plans and. preparation for the new summer camp etc. ri<4" In connection with this rally will be an area wide first aid contest to ‘which a troop is permitted to enter one team of five registered scouts. ~â€"~_~~_ Cabin Caretaker > f Mr. John Koelling, who lives at the entrance to the "Cabin in the Woods" has been deputized as deputy warden of the forest preserve and has been appointed by the camp committee as the caretaker of the "Cabin in the Woods." § § From now on, troops desiring the use of the cabin must get a written permit from Scout Headquarters in Highland Park and with this permit the troop must get the key from Mr. Koelling. .
