s N. S. PEOPLE AIDING ARTETS MARDI GRAS Several â€"Art. Ratrons and Many .___ Artists to Participate, _ Report Says . When the Art Institute‘s Art Stuâ€" dent‘s league has its 35th annual Mardi Gras ball on May first, in the Congress hotel, the interpolated cabâ€" aret that will follow â€"the ~Mother Goose travesty and pageant will be participated in byâ€"prominent theatriâ€" cal stars in Chicago at the time. Miss Helen Tieken who is directing the pageant is the daughter of Dr. Theodore Tieken for many years a practicing physician in Chicago, and of Mrs. Bessie Tieken who has long been identified with club â€"and educaâ€" tional work. More recently Mrs. Tieken has been connected with the Chicago Public School Art society and the IHinois Nurses Training school. Miss Tieken has studied abroad as well as at the Art Institute. _ Plan.Pantomime Miss Florence Higginbotham, presiâ€" dent of the Art Student‘s league has practically ~completed assigning diâ€" rectors for the pantomime of "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater," adopted from nursery rhymes by Hélen Beach of Evanston and Betty Older of Wilâ€" mette. . Leslie Marzolf, designer of all stage settings for the famous Kenneth Sawyer Goodman Memorâ€" fal theater, is in charge of the decoraâ€" tions and stage scttings of the pagâ€" eant that will demonstrate much of the charming grotesquerie of foreign carnivals. FORMER BUICK DEALER IS NOW AIDE to HOOVER Masques, costumes and accessories willâ€"beâ€"ofâ€"suchâ€"motifâ€"asâ€"toâ€"mirror faithfully the spiritâ€" of play and naive humor, that draw thousands of tourâ€" ists annually to continental kirmesses and fetes throughout the Teutonic and Latin countries. â€" ~Masque is Featureé : One of the masques, "The Green Arthur M. Hyde of Missouri is new Secretary of Agriculture : Dragon," that is in process of perâ€" fection, requires the: services of 12 young men to effect a perfect perâ€" formance. Of this number 11 are concealed in the body of the dragon, some acting as forepaws, others as hind legs and several others as abâ€" dominal and thoracic feet while three are required for the caudal appendâ€" age. The dragon snorts fire and is preceded by a young man who perâ€" forms the Fugitive Fandano as he flees in terror. This dragon is not unlike the familiar beast of tradition employed in Chinatown festivities. Mythological accuracy has been inâ€" gisted upon for detail where legendâ€" ary beasts or characters or environâ€" ment is concerned. The Mother Goose feature is a nonsensicality both mirth provoking and. interesting. § Patricia Dalton, a juvenile dancer of talent and promise will appear as a divertisement and there will be other feéatures of interest. The pagâ€" eant ‘will move swiftly, and in its latter moments may be participated in by those of the guests who have come in costume. â€" Any period of cosâ€" tume will be permitted provided canâ€" ons of good taste are not violated.
