Summer Sport Season Opens at: High School The linking rings of China, the magic stove, contrast in black and white, and the rope trick of India were a tew of Mr. Laurant‘s offerâ€" Entertaining the entire school with his skill in tricks, together with modâ€" ern American illusions and mysteries, Eugene Laurant, magician, won apâ€" plause from everyone in essembly Monday, April 15. Mr. Laurant was the last professional to appear at Deerfieldâ€"Shields this school year. ~There are three divisions of the contest, but the prizes will only be given to the winners in the commerâ€" cial .model section. These prizes, which have been offered by Hunter‘s sport shop, will be an airplane ride for first place and medals for secâ€" ond and third places. .t The club has placed several model planes. on display in one of the school‘s trophy cases. Peter White, president of the club, says that there will be some very close competition. Every member of the club has enâ€" tered the contest. Itâ€"isâ€"the hope of Miss Perry, Miss King, â€"andâ€" Miss Keller, the gym instructors, that all the girls who are physically able, will avail themselves of the opportunâ€" ity of participating in one of the many sports now being offered. "Those who are planning to go out for baseball, should start practicâ€" ing right away," says Miss Perry, "since we do not have much time to spend on practices." _ After reading about that wonderâ€" ful track star, Elizabeth Robinson, every girl wants to go out for track and see what she can learn. They don‘t all have to be able to jump high, or to be real fast, ‘cause there are other events that are going to be held in their track meet.
