Fenkell, superintendent of the Detroit waterworks system developed the following points in connection with the effects of elevated tanks in water works systems: (1) reduces operating costs at the pumping staâ€" tion: (2) maintains more. uniform pressures; (3) redyces capital costs for pumps and mains to meet peak hour demands; (4) improves fire servâ€" ice; (5) â€" maintains ~pressure during short interruptions of pumping servâ€" ice; (6) less pump manipulation ‘reâ€" quired. s voem ~ _ Grohusky in Charge Theâ€"erection of the new tank is unâ€" der the direction of Foreman J. Local Chamber Opposes _ | State Income Tax Plan In response to a letter from Genâ€" eral Secretary Ferris of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, urging that the influence of the local chamber be exerted in opposition to the state inâ€" come tax bill now up for third readâ€" ing in the Illinois legislature, Presiâ€" dent Paul ‘Udell has sent the teleâ€" grams to State Senator Ray Paddock and Representatives kee McDonough and Richard Lyons from tkis county; informing them that the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce is opâ€" posed to the passage of Senate Bill No. 39, which is the income tax bill. . Ferris‘ letter says that the bill was due forâ€"third reading . Tuesday . of this week and that its supporters were using every effort to pass it. The bill, the letter®says, makes the proâ€" posed income tax really an additional tax and not a tax in liew of any taxes now levied. The legislature is likely to adjourn in a few days, and opponents of the bill hope to be able to prevent its passage at this session.
