Topic, "The Ch!'istian Sunday § International Sunday School Lesson for July 14 . ‘ en R Ezekiel 88 :7â€"16 . 4 + § se 0+ ._â€"_Rev. Samuel D. Price, D.D. . _ Object lessons were often used by Ezekiel. At such times he alâ€" ways had a curious if not interested audience. People are invariably attracted when something is being shown. Before the fall of J erusalâ€" em the minister to the captive Hebrews at Telâ€"abib in Babylonia took a piece ofâ€" tile and drew the outline of Jerusalem thereon. The Temple appeared in the center and the city was surrounded with imâ€" plements of war. The seige was indicated as he placed an iron pan between himself and the wall, and lay there for days eating a rationed portion of bread daily. In time a refugee arrived declaring all that had ;aker:i place, and that the city was no more a habitation for its ounders. it~. sns Lss. 2 Sick at heart the people suffered. Many were not individually responsible but they were in captivity because of the prolonged and wilful sins of their ancestors as a whole. Up to this time much had been declared about class responsibility. Henceforth more is to be proc&i'med regarding personal responsibility. Have you read the seco@d third of Ezekiel as was called for in the study last week?: The special portions for today are all of chapters 18 and 33. Nothing can take the place of your own careful Bible reading. â€" > use _ Imagery is used again as Ezekiel is called a "Watchman" by Jehovah and commanded to be very faithful in performing the trust, involved in that office.. It is a.position of great responsibility.. Lives of many â€" others are involved. Danger is at hand ‘and at times must be met with life. Failure to do duty as a watchman is often punished with death in times of war. â€" _ ;s>> Pm _0 n u30 108 l0 t s The question "Am I my broér‘s keeper?" is clearly answered. Wicked men mu‘st face the death:penalty due because of their sins. But what shall be"done to those who stood lazily by and never raised a signallingâ€"hand or pleading voice to hold them back from the logical consequences of their own ways. The answer from Jehovah, through Ezekiel, is that all are held responsible who could have given any whrning. "His blood will I require at thy hand." Excuses are not listed. Just one thing ‘is called for, namely to definitely warn the wicked concerning the way he is surely going. . Yme _ _ Suppose the wicked persists in following his own way after you have spoken? That places an added responsibility on him and frees you from any participation, through knowledge, in his wrong doing. @7 conl ue on nas ie e (he o ce e o o o ame c e c Oe We ie 1 o h n Bs i 7\ B The very heart of God was laid bare by Ezekiel. ‘In times of desâ€" pondency it is easier to say "God does not care." . Punishment of the wicked is one of the safeguards of society. It helps deter others from transgressing the law and thus becomes a protection to all. God‘s pleasure is in the restoration of the wicked to a safe and constructive manner of living. Even good deeds in the past will not helno under condemnation for sin at God‘s bar of judgment. Neither will open sins of the vast stand in accusation against any one who in true penitence séeks forgiveness in the Father‘s appointed way. T HE P RES S Marked attention was given to the program . from the beginning to the end.â€" A number expressed surprise that so much hsd been accomplished in such a short time. The total enâ€" rollment was 110, and the school had an average attendance of 80 plus. The â€"teachers worked faithfullyâ€"and enthusiastically and the pupils: would have been pleased if the school could have continued for a longer period of time. The hand work brought forth many favorable comments. The pupils were allowed to keep some of the things which they had made, as a reminder of the D.V.B.S., while a number of dolls, scrap books, etc., will be sent to some orphanage to bring cheer to those less fortunate than cur boys and girls. The picnic at Sunset Park on Wednesday was largely attended and everybody had a good time. The Lord answered prayer in behalf of the school, and we are pleased to say that the interest and attendance surpassed our exâ€" pectations. We trust the Word of God as it was taught will bring forth good fruit in the lives of these interâ€" esting and promising young people. Highwood Lutheran Oakridge and High Streets Rev. G. A. 0.
