Thursday, March 13, 1930 Do You Know What You Do Best? if you want to know your range of vocation assets and interests, try out a vocational test. Recommended as safe in the hands of anyone, this test self-imposed is said to ofter ex- cellent material for an evenings dir cussion by a Y. W. C. A. club or any interested group. Commenting upon it, Miss Hazel Lewis, who is doing advisory work at the Cambridge, Mass., Y. W. C. A. while at Harvard Bureau of Vocational Guidance, says: "This test helps anyone to know where their interests are. If nar- row, effort should be made to widen them. If the job one holds is not absorbing and growing for the indi- vidual and it is not possible nor wise to change, growth and satisfaction may come from the use of leisure. tt orie's outside interests are mea.. gre. then new ones should be sought out and developed. Such safety val- ues help many girls whose limitations and work tend to shut them in, de- velop happily and prottressive1y." Whilejeeotntnendintt Dr. Brewer's Vocational jnfot, mation test for' lay- men, Miss Lewis warned against the application of intelligence tests not mean one is a moron," she says. "Low rating may he due to pressure of time, misapplietttion of the test or many other causes." Dr. Brewer's test may be had from the Harvard Bureau of Vocational Guidance, thun. bridge, Mass. l Girl Reserve Committee Another month has rolled by and the March meeting of the Girl Ite"- serve committee is in the main com- posed of the several advisors. They met with Mrs. Wilson Kline, commit. tee chairman in the club room at the association building for dinner and discussion on March 3. Answering to the roll call were Mrs. Kline, Miss Alice Lindberg, adviser of the Deer- lleld club, Miss Herminu do Hurtog of the Oak Terrace club, Miss Mar- jory Kendall of the Cubs Senior, Miss Myra Jane.Hutton of the Cubs Jun- ior, Mrs. Gladys Bierwirth of the L. L. Club, Mrs. Lydia Hutton, general secretary, Mrs, Bruce Chandler, sec- reetary of the committee and Miss Bernice Rybolt an interested guest. Aurora Council Reports were made by Miss de Har- tog, Miss Kendall, and Mrs. Hutton on the discussions that took pine It the Adult Guidance council at Aurora on March l. Deerfield G,A. Miss Lindberg reported a change in the Girl Reserve progrsm at the Deerfield school. Since the craniu- tion of the Junior Garden club st that school the Girl Reserire meetings have had to be scheduled for every second snd fourth Thursday sliernoon in- stesd of every week. With the many school activities Thursday is the only day left for both the Gordon club and the Girl Reserves, so the two clubs are dividing the Thursdays of the month. _ ‘0. R. Mother A suggestion that etch Girl Re, serve club have at laut one G. R. mother as a mother advisor to help the adviser in club activities and with whom the advisor may consult upon various projects was made. This seemed to the advisors to be a very logical step and although it may not be able to be carried out this spring, it will no doubt be tried inthe fall. Girl Reserve Elections The" plan used in many _towns of electing club oftieers in May for the coming fall was discussed but not definitely decided upon. With the elections taking place in May it will be possible for all club offieerts to at- tend a pre-school conference in Sep- tember at the Y. W. C. A. at which time their respective duties may be fully understood and some deflnite plans may be made for starting out with a wide-awake (all program. MotheraMtttthter Banquet Tickets to the banquet were dis- tributed among the Advisors, and plans made by the inter-club council were discussed. The hall will be converted into a spring garden and the banquet will assume the form of a garden party. Each club is to decorate its own table with a color chosen by its representatives at the council meet- ing on February M. The Cubs Senior will use as decora- tions the red rose, the Makiolets the daisy, the L, L. club the datrodil, the Makios the violet, the Deerhld club, the forget-me-not, and the Swnstl'kn club the evergreen. In decorating their tables the clubs will find and We are sure will use the chence offered for originality and exercise of their artistic tutu. There is little doubt that the banquet will be one of the loviest ones ever held at the local Y.-W. C. A. All Girl Reserves are urged to obtain Ind hnve ready the white middy and skirt uniform before the, banquet. Moment Club Play The Mothers' club entertainment on March 4 wus as interesting and Is enjoyable as the club had promised it would be. By 8 o'clock the hall was packed with only standing rooms left for the late-corners. The short progrnm of songs by Ruth and Esther Drake, violin selections by Russell 'Luce of Glencoe accompanied by Car. oline (khernrnel, a tap dancing num. ber arranged by Misses Thompson Ind Lane for four of their high school girls, and recitation by Wilma Kno- block were received with much ap. plause, but not so much u came with evening’s feature “Tuning Up for the Wedding." The play brought with it one laugh after another and every number of the cast carried her role " admirably. It wss unanimously voted by those who saw it, one of the biggest successes of the Y.W.C.A. yr " and it is hoped that next yesr l , Mothers' will give us another pleasant evening. The lighting ethseU arranged by Francis Drake added a great deal to the effect of the program. April Meeting On April 1 the next meeting eve- ning of the Mothers' club, the mothers will celebrate April Fool's dv with a Masquerade party. Y. W C. A.
