Mr. Vito‘s harp numbers will be "Valse Caprice" by Gilman; "Waâ€" terfall" by Thomas, Schubert‘s "Moâ€" ment Musicale" and Brahms‘ "Valse in A."‘ There will be present on this occasion Mr. W. Schueller, German consul of Chicago and likewise the viceâ€"consul, Dr. George Schaller, Mr. Schueller will speak. . There will be no charge for reserved seats, the genâ€" eral admission at the gate covering everything. . Mme. Rethberg in ‘:Lollengrln Mme. Elisabeth Rethberg is to sing \the role of Elsa in "Lohengrin" |which will be the operatic offering at Ravinia on Sunday night, July 20. This is a part in which this celebrated soprano has achieved unusual distineâ€" | tion in the opera houses of her native \Germany where Wagnerian singing is considered almost as a sacred rite She has ‘been called the greatest of the Elsas, and this with good reason. Edward Johnson will have the title role in which he has long been famous. Others in the "Lohengrin‘" cast are Mme, Claussen, Mr. Defrere, Mr. D‘Angelo, and Mr. Cehanovsky. Many interesting chapters of operatic history have been written at Ravinia in past seasons, for Mr. Eckstcin has mide it a rule to acquaint his patrons year by year, with operas which have in them the element of novelty. "Anima Alleâ€" gra" is such a work, and it is good news to learn that it is to be brought to performance before the season reaches the halfâ€"way mark. Tuesday Night That ardent army of Puccini adâ€" mirers will rejoice to learn that "Tosâ€" ca," one of the greatest works of this modern master, will be the offering on Tuesday night, July 22. . There is no opera more dramatic than this nor is there any which gives greater opâ€" portunity not only for singing, but acting as well, for it was based on Sardou‘s great stage play of the same name in the title role of which many of the world‘s greatest actresses have appeared. Mme. In "Pagliacci," Miss Queena Mario will appear as Nedda, the faithless wife, while Giovanni Martinelli will be Canio, the player who carries on even though his heart is broken. Children‘s Concert The usual thildren‘s concert and entertainment will be given on Thursâ€" day afternoon, July 24, the concert being played by the Chicago Symâ€" phony Orchestra, under the direction of Eric DeLamarter, The entertainâ€" ment will consist of scenes from the merry opera "The Mikado" by Gilbert and Sullivan. It will be presented by a large cast under the direction of J. Williams Macy. Children twelve years of age and under are admitted free to these concerts. Seats in the opera house are free for everyone, The operatic offering for Thursâ€" day evening, July 24, will be Masâ€" senet‘s "Manon," with Lucrezia Bori singing the title role. It is well known that this is one of the outstanding Bori parts, which she interprets with consummate skill making it as conâ€" vincing as though it were spoken drama. Mario Chamlee will be cast as the young DesGrieux, one of the greatest lyric tenor roles in opera, and Leon Rothier will be the elder DesGrieux. Others in the cast are Mr. Defrere as Lescaut, Miss Maxâ€" well, Miss Paggi, Miss Falco, Mr. Friday night, July 25, Giordano‘s dramatic opera "Fedora" will be preâ€" sented ‘for the first time this season with Mme. Yvonne Gall, who scored a tremendous success in this work when it was presented last year, apâ€" pearing in the name part, Giovanni Martinelli will be Count Loris, one of his favorite parts in which he has full opportunity for that dramatic singing and acting for which he is noted. Giuseppe Danise will be De Siriex, which enables him. to use his bel canto voice to full advantage and Leon Rothier will as usual, sing the role of Cirilo, with its beautiful aria. Others in the cast are Miss Maxwell, Miss Falco, Miss Paggi, Mr. Oliviero, Mr. Windheiin, Mr. Cehanoveky, Mr. D‘Angelo and Mr. Anvanian. Mr. Papi will conduct. The opera for Saturday night, July 26, has not yet been announced. Italian Concert Sunday: afternoon, July 27, will bring the annual observance of Italâ€" ian Day with its concert devoted to the works of the great Italian masâ€" ters whose contribution to the world of music has been of inestimable worth. ‘The Chicago Symphony Orâ€" chestra, under Mr. DeLamarter will present a program which will include works by Cherubini, Sgambati, Corâ€" elli, Pedrotti and Wolfâ€"Ferrari, John Weicher, violinist, will be the soloist playing a group which will include numbers by Tartiniâ€"Kreisler, Drigo and Paganini. There will be an adâ€" dress by G. Castruccio, Italian Conâ€" sul General of Chicago. Sunday night, July 27, Verdi‘s celebrated Italian opera "Aida" will be given with the famous Ravinia cast. This means that Mme. Rethberg will have the name part, and that Giovanni Marâ€" tinelli will mppear opposite as Radâ€" ames.
