HART, Notury Alleged Auto Thief From Evanston Taken |\ . by Police; Is Wounded A youthful automobile thief and suspect in the holdup of an Evansâ€" ton grocery store was captured by Highland Park police last Friday after a chase of two â€"miles down Sheridan road. The capture was made by Policeâ€" man Charles Rafferty, who recogâ€" nized the roadster as having been stolen from Winnetka on Wednesâ€" day afternoon, Coincident with the capture, an aiarm came from the Evanston police reporting the holdup of a store at 3000 Central ave. The description of the gunman and his auto tallied with that of the captive. When the youth was captured a bullet wound was found in his left thigh and he was taken to the Highâ€" land Park hospital, He identified himself as James Rogers, 25, Waâ€" wautosa, Wis. A Although Rogers denied responsiâ€" bility for the Evanston robbery, $18, approximately the amount taken, was found in his pockets. Since no shot was fired in the holdâ€" up, the bullet wound was inexplicable to the police. The captive protested that he ‘had been accidentally shot by a man to whom he had given a ride Dr, Kellogg Speed, who removed a bullet from Rogers‘ thigh, deâ€" clared that the shot had been fired from m distance and was almost spent when it reached its mark. The police reason from this that the capâ€" tive had participated in a previous holdup during which he had been fired upon.
