Clausâ€" sen will have a role which is one of the finest ever written for a contralâ€" to, whilé as Samson, the Biblical giant, Giovanni Martinelli appears to finest advantage. Extremely dramaâ€" tic, this role makes demands upon its interpreter which are herculean, yet Mr. Martinelli meets them with conâ€" summate ease. Mario Basiola will be cast as the high priest, while Leon Rothier will be the Old Hebrew. Others in the cast are Mr. D‘Angelo, Mr. Windheim, Mr. Oliviero and Mr. Aranian. There is beautiul ballet in this opera which will be headed by Miss Ruth Page. Louis Hasselmans «will conduct. The high spot of the children‘s afternoon will be reached on Thursday afternoon, July 31, when the outâ€"ofâ€" door carnival will be held. This year this feature will take the form of an "Army and Navy Day with the U. S. Marine Corps." Soldiers from Ft. Sheridan, sailors from the Great Lakes Naval Station and marines likewise from the Great Lakes, will participate in spectacular drills and exhibitions. There will be music by the bands from both branches of the service. Like all the Thursday afterâ€" noon events at Ravinia, children twelve years and under will be adâ€" mitted free. The Chicago Symâ€" phony orchestra, conducted by Eric DeLamarter will contribute some enâ€" semble numbers â€"to the program, but the greater part of the afternoon‘s enâ€" tertainment will consist of solo numâ€" bers by the members of the orchesâ€" tra.
