Waukegan Man Invents Parachute Timing Device Successful final testa of the para- chute timing applntus invented by Harvey LaFayette of Waukegan were made last week at the Curtiss-Rey- holds Flying field, near Glenview, be- fore officials of that organization. This timing mechanism, which can be attached to any standard mike of parachute, may be set to pull the rip cord at a definite n'umber of seconds after the person has jumped from the plane. In one of the trials the ap- paratus was set to open the para- chute when the dummy had fallen 800 feet, The test turned out perfectly. The parachute opened and floated down gently. - Return Three Soldiers Charged With Car Theft The captives identified themselves as Privates Mills and Buck, and con- fcssed taking the machine from Mrs. Alfred Day, wife of a St. Louis phy- sician.
