Highland Park Methodist Church North avenue at Lauretta place Frank Davidson Hopkins, minister Our church people, both old and young, have been very much saddenâ€" ed by the sudden death of Private Paul A. Pierce, of Troop B, 114 U. 8. Cavalry, stationed at Fort Sheriâ€" dan. While away on their annual practice march and camp at Lauderâ€" dale Lake, near Elkhorn, Wis., a row boat in which he and several others were riding, was accidently overturnâ€" ed and Paul and another comrade, were drowned. He was a young man, only nincteen years of age, of strik= ing personality and splendid physical appearance, a model soldier in every way. He was also a stalwart Chrisâ€" tion, never "hiding his light under a bushel," but living up to the highâ€" est ideals of his faith and setting a fine example of Christian manhood in surroundings which were by no means conducive to Christian living. . His moral courage and friendly spirit won the respect and admiration of his comrades and made a deep impression upon them. He was a regular attendâ€" ant at our Epworth League meetings and such other church gatherings as his duties would permit him to atâ€" tend. and during his leisure hours made the parsonage his loved home and the pastor his intimate friend and counselor.
