Anonymous letters in all periods of history have been the weapons of the coward and the steak and should meet prompt relegation to the waste basket or the garâ€" bage can along with other rubbish. No reputable newsâ€" paper ever pays any attention to such missives, and no rational person should for a moment consider the vile and unsupporited charges of the irresponsible writer of anything which he is too cowardly to sign. In political campaigns too often this despicable plan of besmirching a candidate‘s reputation has been resorted to by the kind of vermin which always infest political organizaâ€" tions and help to make them in bad odor with the public. An instance of such an anonymous letter broadcast throughout Lake county occurred this week. Its conâ€" tents are too conspicuously false to be worth repeating. The public is warned against such political filth. It is the slime of the serpent. Sheridan road bridge in Highland Park, which has been in bad condiâ€" tion all summer. ‘The wooden blocks which composed the floor of the bridee kept "blowing up"â€"and it was necessary to renew the entire section. The work was done by the city street department and asphalt was used for the new roadway on the bridge, a good job resulting. Another gratifyâ€" ing feature is that through having the work done by the street departâ€" ment a saving of about $1,500 was effected. This is greatly to the credit of the adminstration and the street department.
