COMMUNITY FAREWELL FOR REV. FRANK FITT Large attendance and an outpourâ€" ing of genuine expressions of esteem for the guests of honor marked the community . farewell gathering held for the Rev. and Mrs. Frank Fitt at the Presbyterian church Monday eveâ€" ning in which all sections of the city were represented. Former Mayor Samuel M. Hastings presided and the invocation was pronounced by the Rev. Harvey M. Siemsen of Bethany Evangelical church. . There were. fiveâ€"minute talks by several speakers. President Herbert McComb Moore of Lake Forest colâ€" lege, of which Dr. Fitt has been a trustee for several years, spoke of Mr. Fitt‘s splendid work in that caâ€" pacity. â€" Mrs. W. A. Alexander of Highland Park spoke feclingly of Mr. Fitt‘s many fine qualities and fine work in the community. Dr. Henry S. Brown, executive secretary of the Chicago Presbytery brought greetâ€" ings and appreciative words in behalf of the Presbytery. Mr. J, B. Garnett, who has been associated with Mr. Fitt in public library work, spoke of him as a fellow citizen. Rev. Christoph Kelâ€" ler, rector of Trinity church, spoke of his brother clergyman from the viewpoint of church work. Following these Mr. Hastings voicâ€" ed an eloquent tribute to the departâ€" ing minister and closed by presenting to him and Mrs. Fitt in behalf of the congregation a handsome sterling silâ€" (Continued on page 36) Children‘s Party at The board of managers of the Highâ€" land Park Woman‘s club extend a cordial invitation to the members‘ children between the ages of 4 and 14 years to attend a party on Saturâ€" day afternoon, Dec. 27 at 3 o‘clock. Banks Contribute To Local Business With Christmas Club Funds Despite the business depression, gencrally prevalent, in addition to the regular _ dividend . payments, . both banks have been able to strengthen their. reserves and increase their unâ€" divided profit accounts. Christmas tea at 4 o‘clock, Sunâ€" day, Dec. 28, in the music room of the Village house. Three of Ravâ€" inia‘s own poets will furnish the proâ€" gram. Rowena Bastin Bennett will read a group of her latest poems. New poems from her are always a very real treat to her many friends and admirers. Drama Workshop Twilight Reading and Tea Sunday Gertrude Williams, who has been very active in organizing the Junior Drama Workshop, will read a group of her poems. She is Ravinia‘s newly discovered poet and is most pleasantâ€" ly anticipated. Brent Dow Allinson <will â€" read a Christmas masque, entitled "A Miraâ€" cle at Drachenfels," with which he took second place in the Drama Leaâ€" gue national playwriting contest of this year. The best dramatic critics in the country acted as judges in this ecntest, which was open to both proâ€" fessional and amateur playwrights from every state in the union. The play is written in blank verse. Mrs. James Cady Ewell and <Mrs. John Warmington‘ will act as hostâ€" esses, assisted by members of the Junior Drama Workshop. The proâ€" gram will commence promptly at 4 o‘clock and will be followed by a soâ€" cial hour. It is an open meeting to which guests are cordially invited. Mrs. Bennett and Mr. Allinson are both very well known for their poetry, which frequently appears in current magazines, and have each had the honor of appearing on the Literary Digest current poetry page. Reâ€"elected President ave the preeminence of the om Col ]JR[MH"COMMI'I'IEE | REPORT TO DEC. 20 Social Service Group Providing Christmas Cheer for Many; Summary of Work The Highland Park Social Service committee wishes to thank all the inâ€" dividuals and organizations who have coâ€"operated so splendidly in furtherâ€" ing the work of relieving the unemâ€" ployed and needy. Christmas Cheer Plans for Christmas cheer to go into the home of every unemployed person in this community are now perfected. Baskets have been promâ€" ised by 82 individuals or groups, and the number to be furnished by the Social Service committee will be over 100. The H. P. Woman‘s club has donated the use of the club basement for packing these baskets on Tuesâ€" day and Wednesday. Following is the report to and inâ€" cluding Dec. 20: Investigations to date of families in need, 74; relief to families in food and fuel, 69; relief to families in clothing, 245; individuals sending supâ€" pliesâ€"milk, 18; rent, 2; baskets vegeâ€" tables weekly, 3; meats once a week, 3. f Individual. donated several dozen new sweaters. Individual donated dozen new dolls. High School Sewing class, several dozen garments made from materials furnished by committee, including dresses, pajamas, slips, bloomers.
