Caldwell Next Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 2:30 p.m. at the Highland Park Woman‘s club, spring will come to us in all of its glory of â€" awakened nature, bright flowers and jubilant birds. . Mr. Guy C. Caldwell, one of America‘s greatâ€" ost naturalists, will give an illustrated talk on "Bird songs and wild flowers." Mr. Caldwell has the rare gift of making his listeners dwell in the holy temple of nature with the birds, wild flowers and the trees. His pictures are masterpicces; he gives many bird calls and imitates birds songs; shows pictures of ‘the Longs Peak region on Colorado and of the Rocky Mounâ€" tain regions. Mr. Caldwell has traveled ~extenâ€" sivély all over the world, and has an intimate and practical knowledge of nature to be found in every clime. LAKE PRESENTS | â€"â€" INTERESTING TALK Summarizes Ideas of Recent Naâ€" tional Conference on Child Welfare, Jan. 21 "Child Welfare" was the topic of a lecture given by Dr. George B, Lake before an audience of parents and educators at a meeting held Jan. 21 at the Open Air Nursery school, 186 Edgecliff drive. Dr. Lake presented a summary â€"of some of the more important ideas ofâ€" fered at the recent national conferâ€" ence on child welfare, held in Washâ€" ington, which he attended at the inviâ€" tation of President Hoover. In addition, he offered some of his own views which he has developed from years of writing and lecturing besides editing a medical magazine. Miss Flora Levy, ‘director of. the scho]1, spoke.briefly of the aims and program of activities of the school. She explained the wholesome effect on both children and parents of having the children spend a good share of the day with other children under the care of people specially trained for such work Mrs. Carl Pfanstichl, two of whose children have attended the . school, spoke in behalf of the mothers in praise of what the. school is doing. Mr. R. II. Carpenter expressed the appreciation of the fathers for the exâ€" cellent work of the sthool. ' A general and lively discussion folâ€" lowed the lecture. The meeting was part of the regular program of activâ€" ities sponsored by the school, which is now in its fourth successful: year under Miss Levy‘s direction. (Signed, A Parent.) City Council Meets in Regular Session The â€" Highlandâ€" Park city council meeting Monday evening was devoted to regular business chiefly. As reâ€" lated in another part of this paper a resolution ‘was adopted requesting acâ€" tion by the county beard of superâ€" visors in obtaining extension of time in which. delinquent special assessâ€" ments may be returned to the county collector. Central Cafe Opening on _ Wednesday on Central Ave. Commissioner Reay presided in the absence ofâ€" Mayor Lewis. Miss Mary Garino and Mr. Mario Vango announce the opening of the Central cafe (formerly known as the Highland Park cafe) next Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 515 Central avenue. The members of the Highland Park Rotary club enjoyed a most interestâ€" ing meeting Monday, when they listâ€" ened to a talk on "Russia" by Capt. M. L.
