The skating rink with its fine field house, the gift of the Deerfleld Woman‘s club, is the greatest recreational activity in the village. Every day that the weather permits, the pond is filled with skatâ€" ers, young and old. Sitting on the sideâ€"lines on Sunday last, watching soâ€" many enjoying this winter sport, one ponders, and it becomes a definâ€" ite fact that Deerfield needs an allâ€" _ _A large sound speaker and vicâ€" trola attachment were installed at the field house last week and the skaters now glide to the music. The musicâ€"box, a gift of the« Deerfield Woman‘s club, was installed by men of the township, who are keeping the ice pond and building in tipâ€"top condition. _ A load of Christmas trees will be placed on the margin of the rink to serve as a background. An ice carnival is being planned for the nearâ€"future. THE ICE POND NEWS ‘"Holy Cross Topics" contains this interesting bit of information conâ€" cerning the word ‘news‘: "The word "news" was derived, not from the fact that it represents new inforâ€" mation, but because it signified that the matter contained in the reports came from the ‘North, East, West, South, the four quarters of the globe.
